Health Considerations

The level of health care in Slovenia and most other Eastern & South Eastern European countries generally corresponds to European standards.

Pharmacies in most countries are open from 7:00 to 20:00, and for urgent needs, certain pharmacies are open at night.

Every foreign visitor has the right to emergency medical care.   With certain countries (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Rumania and The Netherlands), Slovenia in particular has signed conventions for the guarantee of emergency medical assistance or treatment if the visitor submits the appropriate forms.   In such cases, the medical assistance is free.  Further information can be obtained from the health authorities with whom the visitor is insured or from the Slovenian Ministry of Labour.

Citizens of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Poland have the right to free medical care upon submitting their passports and health insurance or proof that they have their own insurance in their own country. Citizens of Great Britain need just passports.

Other foreign nationals whom conventions do not cover are also guaranteed emergency medical assistance however, they must bear the costs of such services themselves.
